Rear Yard

The back of KFH has long been a point of contention. Safety regulations shutdown the playground, disease killed off trees, flooding, irrigation, $100k landscaping costs. The obvious solution is to turn this area into a putting green!

Even though KFH has strong Kiwanis support throughout the Cal-Nev-Ha district, we function day-to-day on a very lean staff of 9. So we’re shifting our efforts to making things more efficient and reducing our maintenance overhead. Initially we wanted to lay artificial turf in the backyard of KFH to cut our landscaping time and costs in half, but then we’d be left with a gigantic patch of a nearly useless green surface. So, yeah, the obvious answer is to turn it into a putting green!

Project Space

The shade structure will remain and double as cover for a natural pond in this flood-prone area. Excess water will flow into the existing drainage swale. This means our flood control solution doubles as a water feature!
